THE WORK BEGINS
The Viaduct has been a huge part of Northern Broadsides’ development and has served us well as our home but it is now in dire need of some care and attention, we are making some essential changes to the audience access and safety aspects of the venue. Northern Broadsides has been awarded grants by Arts Council England and Community Foundation For Calderdale towards its work to improve facilities at Dean Clough, Halifax, by installing an Assisted Listening System, provide safer audience access and spaces for wheelchair users. It will concentrate on health and safety aspects needing attention and re-fit and extend the dressing room area to create a habitable, multi-purpose space that will be able to be used as a rehearsal room for Northern Broadsides and the local community.
We have also received in kind donations from local businesses who are supporting this venture
AWARDED CAPITAL GRANT
Michelle Dickson, Director North, Arts Council England said, “I’m delighted that we have awarded funding to Northern Broadsides for its developments to The Viaduct Theatre at Dean Clough in Halifax which will significantly improve the venue’s facilities for both audiences and performers as well as help to increase the organisation’s resilience.”
“We are delighted with this award. The Viaduct is a space with it’s own, powerful “wow” factor! Performers and Audiences will share great benefits from the improvements and the wow will be increased. Many thanks. “
“Dean Clough is delighted with this news. Since 1992 we have been privileged to assist Northern Broadsides in its outstanding series of theatrical accomplishments. The unique features of the Viaduct Theatre have proved to be an ideal complement to their distinctive style but the space’s industrial origin inevitably means that it has operational deficiencies. We hope that this project, not only helps Broadsides to bring its regional resource in line with its demonstrable popularity; but initiates yet another evolutionary phase in its extraordinary history.”
