Northern Broadsides Presents

Christmas Broadsides

Friday 13 – Sunday 15 December
The Viaduct Theatre, Halifax

Directed by Laurie Sansom
Featuring Alice Jones

Folk songs and stories told in the heart of Halifax this Christmas.

Following the success of A Christmas Cantata in December 2018, we are delighted to present our Christmas concert for 2019. Join Ripponden-based Folk singer and multi-instrumentalist Alice Jones for a celebration of Christmas with a Northern Broadsides twist. Also performing at the event will be musicians from other cultures who have been recently granted asylum in Halifax.

We are working with two local actors, Broadsides regular Cath Kinsella and Tom Shaw. Folk singer Alice Jones is arranging the musical programme alongside two asylum seekers, Amir and Kamaran, two very talented musicians from Iran, This Christmas concert will be a unique blend of broadside ballad, sing-a-long, Iranian classical music and storytelling which should capture a spirit of celebration, whilst also providing an opportunity for us all to reflect on the multiplicity of experiences of people living in Halifax this Christmas.

Enjoy traditional festive songs and stories based on Broadsides Ballads all performed live in the atmospheric underground Viaduct Theatre, Dean Clough.

All proceeds from ticket sales and donations will support Northern Broadsides’ creative playwriting project, ensuring we can support and develop diverse new voices for the stage. If you can’t make the show then donate online here.

Tickets: £15

Family Tickets (4 people, at least one under 16): £50

What else is happening in Halifax at Christmas?

We’re proud to be part of the Halifax Cultural Consortium, Calderdale Cultural Destinations, which is a project that aims to ensure all arts organisations in the District work together to promote Calderdale as a wonderful place to live and visit. We’d love to share what our partner venues have planned for this Christmas. Whether it’s candle pouring at The Piece Hall, winter crafts at Shibden Hall or ballet at The Victoria Theatre, there really is something for everyone in Calderdale this Christmas.
